The Conversation Book Club

Are you looking for an opportunity to practice your French in natural conversations, and are you interested in books, stories and fiction? Then join the Conversation Book Club! Level B1 minimum.

Practice French when you lack opportunities to speak it, is Hard!

You learned French up to a rather good level, but you have little to no opportunities to actually speak it? You'd love to have actual conversations, but you're not in a French speaking country and/or all your friends speak English?

And so you can feel your French vocab slowly disappearing, it's hard to find the right words, you sometimes need to go back to English, and you struggle with informal conversations. That's totally normal when you can't practice much, but it's so damn frustrating!

What if you could reactivate your French through talking about books and fiction?

If you're into books, fiction, stories...Then the bookclub is perfect for you! It allows you to talk with other people (4 people max in the club), criticize stuff you don't like, share stuff you love, discuss books and opinions... In other words, argue your opinion while having fun, discovering French books and authors and using natural French!

The bookclub is really meant to help you improve conversational French in a fun and dynamic way, so that you can finally be confident when speaking (and as a sweet little bonus, you're doing it by talking about stuff you enjoy!). That's also why it's limited to 4 people, so that you can really have the time to speak :)

How does it work?

Registration for April 29th to June 24th is open! !

  • You participate in 4 live sessions (1 hour, every two weeks) where we will discuss books, characters, storytelling… Each session has a theme and I bring ideas for debates around this theme to start the conversation! For example, in the past we have had sessions on heroes and antagonists, fiction and non-fiction, what makes a good character, the use of time in fantasy…
  • You also have a Google Drive with the preparation sheets and session notes
  • Si tu veux continuer le trimestre prochain, tu pourras te réinscrire très facilement !

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Lucile! I've been teaching French for 5 years. I'm a big nerd when it comes to languages, fiction and nerdy culture. I love meeting people and helping them reach their goals in French!

I work with books and fiction because not only do I love it, but I also know how much it can help to talk about things you genuinely like! It helps with confidence, but also letting go of the pressure and having fun conversations!

How much does it cost?

For a trimester of 5 sessions and the Google Drive access, price is 90€ paid when you register, through bank transfer or a Stripe link.

The price of the book is not included, but I choose small books that you can easily find, including in ebook version!

BONUS: Resources on fiction!

As the workshops are focused on practice, I offer you on the Drive a file with vocabulary around fiction, and external resources (articles, videos, podcasts, etc.) that talk about stories, storytelling, etc.!

What do the students say?

  • It's a great space to talk about books and stories and say what we think, but also improve our vocabulary naturally, and it's a lot of fun to share opinions about the book!

It is absolutely not a problem if your French is not perfect, if you do not know all the words, we will make the sentences together if necessary 🙂

Absolutely! The club is open from level B1 to level C2. You can of course come. However, there will be people with a lower level, you must be aware of that, agree to help them progress and work with them to discuss. If you only want to talk with people at your level, then the book club is not the right place for you.
